Organizer, Political Commentator, and Independent Journalist
Rosa Alicia Clemente is a organizer, political commentator and independent journalist. She is creator of Puerto Rico on the Map an independent, Latinx centered media group founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. She is currently competing her doctorate at the W.E.B. DuBois Department at UMASS Amherst and was the first ever Afro Latina women to run for Vice President of the United States in 2008 on the Green Party ticket. On Jan 8th, 2018 Rosa and 6 other women of color activists joined actresses from Hollywood and walked the Red Carpet to bring voice to issues of survivors of sexual assault, Puerto Rico, Native women, domestic workers, restaurant workers, farmworkers and Black women in the UK, as part of Hollywoods initiative TIME’s UP and on behalf of the #metoo movement founded by Tarana Burke. As Rosa said that evening, “we are human beings who deserve the right to dignity, whether we’re working on a Hollywood set, or working at Kentucky Fried Chicken, whether we’re a mother in the South Bronx, or a mother in Beverly Hills. So we are here to not only walk the Red Carpet we are here to work the red Carper and give voice to the many millions who are often marginalized but who are the center of the fight for liberation and freedom for all of us.
